Delivering High Impact
MedAssurant's ePASS™ suite is a proven solution. In a controlled study of thousands of patients, the clear benefits of ePASS™ have been tested and demonstrated.

Gaps Closed – The number of gaps in assessment, documentation, and care management can vary from population to population. Without facilitation, these gaps were closed by practitioner intervention (without any external solution or assistance) at a rate of 3.66% over a six month study period. In those situations where ePASS™ was utilized as part of the provider / patient interaction, gaps were found to be confirmed and closed at a rate of 61.80% - nearly 17 times the rate of those provider / patient relationships in the control group not using ePASS™.

Data Awareness Increased – The ePASS™ solution provides an Internet-enabled interface into the diagnosis, laboratory, medication, and encounter history of the patient. Awareness of these data elements enables greater insight by the practitioner – while also enabling the avoidance of unnecessary or redundant tests or encounters. In fact, the number of redundant prescriptions, laboratory orders, and encounters in the group using ePASS™ decreased by as much as 7.7% during the six months following their first ePASS™-facilitated encounter.

Acute Presentations Decreased – The process of addressing gaps brings patient's needs and issues to the forefront, enables more thorough assessment, results in an improved outcome, and decreases subsequent acute care presentations. As an example, an examination of ER presentations during the six months after practitioners and patients engaged with the ePASS™ solution shows a 25.5% decrease in ER presentation rates (compared to a 6.25% decrease in controlled groups during the same period).

Patient Turnover Decreased – The use of ePASS™ strengthens the message to patients that the health plan or employer cares about their ongoing care and wellbeing. The encouraged outreach and detailed insight facilitation of ePASS™ is a welcomed indication of thoroughness and follow-up of the healthcare system. This positive message and improved personalized care is interpreted positively by patients. An analysis of patient turn-over in systems using ePASS™ showed that patient turnover was 6.4% lower amongst patients whose providers used ePASS versus the control group.

Meaningful Financial Impact – The use of ePASS™ leads to the closure of gaps, improvement in clinical care, reduction of acute presentations, lower unnecessary utilizations, and the decrease of membership turnover. These benefits help the patient and help achieve a material financial impact. Even further benefit is gained from the improvement in disease and comorbidity documentation accuracy in situations of risk adjusted reimbursement models. Upon study of this impact for patients whose practitioners utilized ePASS™ in their interaction versus a control group, the difference amounted to a positive net improvement of $4,197 PMPY – a notably significant impact.
